Thicker isn’t always better—but choosing the right thickness is crucial.
Edge banding thickness typically ranges from 0.3 mm to 3 mm. Each range serves a distinct purpose.
0.3 – 0.5 mm (Thin)
Ideal for straight edges and applications where the banding is barely visible, such as hidden cabinet interiors. It applies quickly and is cost‑effective.
1 – 2 mm (Standard)
The most common thickness for visible edges like desktops and shelving. It offers good impact resistance and a clean appearance.
2 – 3 mm (Thick)
Used for heavy‑duty furniture, worktops, and areas subject to frequent impact. Thick banding can be rounded over to create a soft, durable edge that feels substantial.
Consider Your Machinery
Thicker bandings require more heat and pressure to apply. Verify that your edge banding machine can handle the thickness before switching.
